Lyrics for two old songs my mother sang about dolls.

Hi all: My sister is trying to teach her grandaughter the songs my mother sang many years ago, but we can't remember all of the lyrics. One song was, "I'm a little doll who's just been broken falling off my mommy's knee." I know most of the words, but not all. The second song is a little more vague. The part that I remember is:" I once had a doll who was all dressed in white, I hugged her and squeezed her and I held her tight..." "One little word she knew, Mama, mama" Kind of corny, but then I don't have grandchildren yet. I would love to find these songs, I've lost a lot of the memory's of my mother and would enjoy having these back. Thanks all.

I know the latter song and have been trying to find the singer or the song title for a long time. My mother used to sing it to me but changed the word dolly to baby.

I know I am not crazy because I heard this song a few years ago at my daughter's ballet recital. I bought a DVD of the recital and so I kind of have a copy of the song. I have not yet converted the audio to mp3 but I probably should.

I still do not know who sings it but your lyrics are close. Here's what I remember.

I once had a doll that was all dressed in white. I called her my baby and I'd hold her tight. ...... But I'd never leave her, until she said, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama. One little word she knew. Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama. To me. it meant I love you.

There is a bit in the middle I don't remember off the top of my head. There is also a second verse. I will pull that DVD out and record that to mp3. I just wish I knew who sang it.

I finally got all the words to this song. As per my previous post, I listened to the DVD and copied down the words. I also recorded it to an mp3, though not the best quality. After I did all that I found the singer and title on this website: http://lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/t/themamadollsong.shtml

Also, you can hear it on Rhapsody.

THE MAMA DOLL SONG
(Nat Simon / Charles Tobias)

Patti Page - 1954

I once had a doll that was all dressed in white
I called her my baby and I'd hold her tight.
Her eyes were so blue and her cheeks were so red
But I loved her most of all each time she said,

Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama,
One little word she knew
Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama,
To me it meant I love you.

My dolly was waiting when I'd want to play
And I always knew what she wanted each day
I'd wash her and feed her and put her to bed
But I'd never leave her until she said

Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama,
One little word she knew
Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama,
To me it meant I love you.

Then came the time I remember the day
I wrapped her in paper and put her away
Now I've got a secret sometimes when I'm blue
I still get a thrill again listening to

Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama,
One little word she knew
Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama,
To me it meant I love you.

I LOVE THIS SONG TOO!! I remember the first song, from singing it in a play in elementary school! And I would truly love the name of the song and artist please!!! Here are the lyrics I remember:

I'm a little doll, who has just been broken
Falling off my mommy's knees
I'm a little doll, who has just been mended
Now won't you tell me please

Are my ears on straight, is my nose in place
Have I got a good expression on my face
Are my blue eyes bright, do I look alright
To be taken home on Christmas Day

When I first came here, just a month ago
Brought in by a little girl, who loved me so
She began to cry, until I told her why
To be taken home on Christmas Day

Christmas Day is drawing near
And I'm getting scared
I wish I could see in a mirror
How I've been repaired

I would call for her soon, but I'm worried so
Will she love me, like she did a month ago
Are my ears on straight, I can hardly wait
To be taken home on Christmas Day

Oh!
I love those songs. I've never heard them before, with an accurate tune, but my grandmother sung that to me off-key when I was little. I remember. (The reason I know she sang that song off-key is because she can't sing anything on-key anymore. :( ) Thanks for posting this. :) I can't wait to listen to it on rhapsody! :)

Are My Ears On Straight?

Lyrics by Rox, John

I'm a little doll who was dropped and broken
Falling off my mommy's knee
I'm a little doll who has just been mended
Now won't you tell me please.

Are My Ears On Straight, Is my nose in place
Have I got a cute expression on my face?
Are my blue eyes bright, Do I look all right?
To be taken home Christmas Day?

When I first came here, Just a month ago.
Brought in by a little girl who loved me so.
She began to cry, 'Til they told her I
Could be taken home Christmas Day.

Christmas time is drawing nearer, And I'm getting scared
Wish I could see in a mirror, How I've been repaired.
I'll be called for soon, But I'm worried so
Will she love me like she did a month ago.

Are My Ears On Straight? I can hardly wait.
To be taken home Christmas Day

"are my ears on straight" was recorded by Gayla Peevey in 1953. I'm looking for the dance moves to the song. It's my daughters dance for her ballet recital n 2 weeks, and she doesnt know it at all!
