FWIW, I used to live in Dresden -- speak German pretty well, can read Dutch, as can most any German.

Dutch *is* close to a type of German called "Plattdeutsch,"

You hear Plattdeutsch spoken up around the north coast and used a lot by Germans -- especially younger northern Germans -- who want to sound informal and kewel.

Funny thing -- the Rammstein "Barbie girl" sounds rude, but the Dutch version is actually cleaner than the English version.

I think it was marketed for the US market, just like the bogus English translation of "Du has(s)t mich" was.
