Lyrics and no credits

Too many lyrics out there announcing the cover artist as the author!
Shouldn't the person/band who actually wrote the lyrics at least get SOME credit?
PS. I don't have anything against cover songs in general, and sometimes the cover songs are even better than the original. Just think credit should be given where due.
